DENVER — Denver Mayor Michael Hancock will host the annual State of the City address Monday morning.
The mayor is expected to address growth in the city and the need to help residents be able to continue to afford to live in Denver as housing and rent prices go up.
A preview of the speech released by Mayor Hancock’s office said Hancock will talk about people feeling left behind and how the city needs to work to offer a more equitable path to prosperity. A major focus of the speech will be on affordability.
The city will begin a pilot project to offer supplemental housing assistance for working professionals this month known as the low-income voucher equity program or LIVE Denver. It’s just one of the many ways the city is working to help people be able to live in Denver.
At the same time, part of the State of the City address will focus on the need to maintain the culture, character and community in Denver’s neighborhoods as the growth continues.
Beyond housing, Mayor Hancock is also expected to talk about adding more public transit options with more sidewalks and bike paths and by promoting RTD’s extensive bus and light rail system.
The mayor will also touch on Denver’s green spaces and his desire to offer more outdoor experiences with healthier, greener options for the community.
Finally, the speech preview released by the mayor’s office said Hancock will address ways that he would like to help people experiencing homelessness, behavioral health challenges and more.
