ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. — The growth of the Denver metro area means a lot of services have to work extra hard to keep up or stay ahead of demand.
In Adams County, they're trying to do both with the August opening of a new "super fire station."
Adams County Fire Chief Pat Laurienti said his department is seeing an increase in calls due to the population boom.
At the same time, crews are having to work an expanding district after mergers with neighboring fire districts.
"We've got locomotion moving down the track full steam ahead," Chief Laurienti said.
To handle all those calls, the Adams County Fire Protection District built a 31,000 square-foot "super station" at the corner of 69th and Pecos based on holes in response time data.
"We're in the eye of the storm here," Tavalez said. "This is where the need is."
No additional taxpayer money was used in the station's construction, Laurienti said.
The building is a firefighter's paradise, featuring a gym, an outdoor relaxation patio, and a beautiful kitchen.
