DENVER -- As more families have moved into the RiNo neighborhood, so has the construction equipment.

Currently, there are construction projects in the works and now a new 12-story building will also be moving in near 38th St. and Brighton Blvd.

Managing Investment Principal at Schnitzer West, Doug Zabel, says their new building is set to be completed in Fall 2021 and will replace an old warehouse. He says with all the new apartment buildings in the area, it's a prime location for new business and economic growth.

"This creates an opportunity for employers to look and say, 'RiNo is a safe choice for our employees because now it offers not only living but also all the amenities where young people want to be.'"

But the new view doesn't appeal to 93-year-old LaVerne Dorcatt.

She says she grew up in the neighborhood and has lived in her same home for decades. The same home that will now be several hundred feet away from the new building.

"Before we had all houses, we had real nice neighbors, everything, we had grocery stores, now we have nothing here but buildings, buildings, buildings," she said.

Dorcatt says the neighborhood she once knew is different now but admits, in some areas, it represents progress.

Zabel believes their new building will also attract new businesses into the area and revive that part of town.
