One firefighter is dead and another is injured after a shooting occurred at Station 81 in Agua Dulce, an area west of Santa Clarita, California.

Los Angeles County Fire Department's Twitter account confirmed there was a shooting just before 11 a.m. PT.

During a press conference Tuesday evening, the Los Angeles County Department Chief Daryl Osby said a 44-year-old firefighter at Station 81, who served for over 20 years, died.

Osby added that a 54-year-old fire captain was also injured by gunshot and is hospitalized in “critical but stable condition.”

During the press conference, Osby said that the off-duty-firefighter, who was also a firefighter specialist, came to the fire station, located in the 8700 block of Sierra Highway, shortly before 11 a.m.

After gaining the name of the suspect from fellow witnesses, law enforcement agencies were able to locate the suspect at his home in the 2600 block of Bent Spur Drive in Acton.

Officials said on Tuesday during the press conference that they believe the suspect is dead after he barricaded himself inside his home before allegedly setting it on fire.

The case is still under investigation.
