NEW YORK, N.Y. – The CEO of JPMorgan Chase, Jamie Dimon, is recovering after undergoing emergency heart surgery on Thursday, according to multiple reports.

The news was announced in a memo obtained by CNBC, Business Insider and other outlets. The note was sent to employees, clients and shareholders.

In the memo, Co-presidents Daniel Pinto and Gordon Smith said Dimon experienced an acute aortic dissection Thursday morning.

"The good news is that it was caught early and the surgery was successful. He is awake, alert and recovering well,” they wrote.

Pinto and Smith will lead the company while Dimon recuperates, the memo says.
