CINCINNATI — One person was displaced from their Ohio home on Sunday after he reportedly set his home on fire while attempting to melt ice on his exterior steps with a propane torch, the Cincinnati Fire Department (CFD) said.

Cincinnati fire crews responded to reports of a fire along the 600 block of Hawthorne Avenue at 7:39 p.m. The CFD said the fire began on the siding of the house and spread toward the attic. Smoke spread throughout the house, but the fire was contained to the exterior walls of the building, the CFD reported.

Crews managed to put out the fire, but the CFD estimated that the fire caused $98,000 worth of damage.

There were no injuries reported.

The owner of the house was displaced, but has a place to stay, CFD said.

The CFD would like to remind everyone to use caution when using heating appliances.
