ASPEN, Colo. -- A deputy from Texas, and his family, helped stop a criminal in Aspen.

El Paso County, Texas Deputy Sheriff Armando Salazar, Jr., saw a shoplifter escape from a store in Aspen last Thursday.

A few minutes later Salazar spotted the man again and jumped in to help.

He grabbed the suspect and was holding him down when the suspect punched him, police said.

Salazar's father and brother jumped into the fray and managed to help Salazar hold the suspect until police arrived.

"The energetic suspect also resisted our officers for a while, but eventually made his way successfully off to jail," Aspen Police said.

Aspen Police wrote on Facebook about the family, " Thanks for the help, gentlemen."

The suspect, 19- year-old Samuel Candela-Herrera, was arrested on suspicion of theft, resisting arrest and assault, according to the Aspen Times.

The newspaper said the teen allegedly stole a Louis Vuitton jacket and $3,600 necklace.
