MONARCH, Colo. -- A Colorado ski area was dumped on by 14 inches of snow overnight, but no skiers or snowboarders can enjoy the fresh powder.

That's because Highway 50 over Monarch Pass is closed for avalanche control work, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation. Monarch Ski Area is in the 20-mile closure zone.

Monarch Mountain Ski Area, which is about 21 miles from Salida, got 14 inches of snow overnight. 19 inches in the last 24 hours and 28 inches in the last 48 hours.

Monarch Mountain wrote on Facebook that they plan to be open tomorrow "with lots and lots of snow."
