EAGLE COUNTY, Colo. -- Several dangerous traps were found this week on a popular mountain biking trail, the Eagle County Sheriff's Office said.

The traps, made of nails on a stick and wires & branches, were found on the Dirt Surfer Trail in Eagle.

"We are taking seriously malicious intent to cause harm to others," the Eagle County Sheriff's Office wrote on Facebook. "It is wrong and unlawful to intend to bring harm to others or to retaliate.

The Eagle County Sheriff's Office and the Bureau of Land Management have launched a joint investigation into the traps.

Rider Jesse Horton posted photos of the traps on the Eagle County Cyclists and Friends Facebook page.

He said the traps were found Tuesday and reported to police.

He warned riders to, "Be careful in the meantime. Who knows what other trails may have been sabotaged."

Investigators said anyone with information about the crime, or any suspects, should call the Eagle County Sheriff's Office at (970) 328-8500 or Eagle County Crime Stoppers at 970-328-7007.
