2 drivers ticketed, 1 sought after 'rolling coal' during Steamboat Springs' 'March for Our Lives'

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. – Two drivers have been cited and police are searching for a third for “rolling coal” at demonstrators during the “March For Our Lives” rally in Steamboat Springs on Saturday.

According to Steamboat Today, demonstrators at the rally were harassed by several vehicles during the event but were able to hand photo evidence to police of the incident.

A Steamboat Springs Police Department spokesperson told the Steamboat Daily they ticketed a 20-year-old and a high school student but were waiting on vehicle identification to issue a third ticket.

Gov. Hickenlooper signed a bill back in May of 2017 that upped fines for the so-called “coal rollers” who use modified diesel trucks to smoke out unwitting bystanders.

Steamboat Springs police told Denver7 they believe these are the first tickets they have issued for "rolling coal" since the law passed last year.
