GRAND JUNCTION — A 27-year-old woman is facing child abuse charges after police say she left an infant in a hot car for 20 minutes.

Shortly after noon Sunday, police and paramedics responded to the Dollar Tree at 2401 N. Avenue in Grand Junction after receiving a report of a baby left in a vehicle, according to a police report. The temperature in the area hovered between 87 and 92 degrees.

Police spoke with both the reporting party, who said she found the baby screaming in a Kia Sedona, and Crystal Chapman, who said she had forgotten she’d brought the child to the store with her, according to the report.

Video footage showed that Chapman had been in the store about 20 minutes.

Chapman, of Provo, Utah, was charged with child abuse with criminal negligence not resulting in injury.

Paramedics said the child is expected to be okay, according to KJCT.
