WELD COUNTY, Colo. — The deputy who was shot twice by a suspect in August has recovered from his injuries and returned to work.

Deputy Brandon Stupka is “back to full duty,” the Weld County Sheriff’s Office posted on Thursday.

On the evening of Aug. 15, 2018, deputies, including Stupka, responded to the 2200 block of NW C Street to a report of a disturbance involving a man possibly armed with a firearm. When the deputies arrived, the man opened fire on them, shooting Stupka in the thigh and abdomen. Deputies shot the suspect, who was transported to a hospital.
Stupka was also transported and underwent surgery the following morning.

He has been recovering since then and was allowed back on patrol on Thursday. Several agencies in the county gathered at the sheriff’s office to celebrate his return, the sheriff’s office said.
