DENVER — A Denver nonprofit is hoping to help families in need by offering free new and gently used children's toys.

As many families struggle to keep food on the table and rent or mortgages paid, the Colorado-based nonprofit WeeCycle is aiming to take some of the financial pressure off during the holiday season.

Through November and December, WeeCycle will bring its Holiday Toy Mobile — a small school bus — to various locations around the Denver metro area. The bus is filled with new and gently used toys that parents and guardians can shop from for free.

The dates and locations of the WeeCycle Holiday Toy Mobile will be announced on the organization's Facebook page and Instagram page.

All toys are sanitized after they're donated and held for at least a week before they're offered to families.

Morgan Seibel, executive director of WeeCycle, said this has been a difficult year for many families and they hope this opportunity will help make the holidays brighter for everybody.

Outside the holiday season (but also during it), WeeCycle recycles baby gear and collects new items, such as diapers, wipes, baby food and more, and offers it to families experiencing poverty, unemployment, teen pregnancy, homelessness and domestic violence. By recycling items — or "weecycling" — they contribute to less waste.

Since March 2020, WeeCycle has distributed about 20,000 diapers every week to Colorado families in need. They distributed about 4,500 diapers each week in 2019, demonstrating the increase in need this year.
