DENVER – Good morning! Here’s what you need to know today, Thursday, April 12, 2018.
1. 'Vote for our Lives' rally
Today, survivors of the Parkland, Florida school shooting will join Columbine survivors in Colorado for a candlelight vigil and rally at Clement Park. The rally, called "Vote for our Lives," aims to encourage young people to vote. Friday is the 19th anniversary of the Columbine H.S. shooting.
2. 117 Fire still burning
Firefighters continue to try to get the upper hand on the 117 Fire burning in El Paso and Pueblo counties. As of Thursday morning, the fire is nearly 41,000 acres in size and is 25 percent contained.
3. Oklahoma City anniversary
A moment of silence will be held this morning to remember the 168 people killed in the Oklahoma City bombing 23 years ago. Today there is a memorial and park on the site where the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building once stood.
4. Avalanche trailing Predators
The Colorado Avalanche are on the brink of elimination in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Nashville Predators took game four for a 3-1 series lead. Game five is Friday night in Nashville.
5. Warm and dry today, rain and snow tomorrow
Thursday will be warmer, windy and dry, with highs in the upper 60s to near 70 degrees in Denver. Clouds will increase in the afternoon ahead of the next storm system. Winds will also be gusty from the south southwest, with gusts up to 40 to 45 mph. Rain will change to wet, slushy snow in the Denver area on Friday evening and continue through Saturday morning.
