DENVER — The drivers of two cars died after one driver crossed the median and crashed into another car. A 6-year-old in the back of one of the cars was airlifted to a nearby hospital.
The crash closed both directions of I-70 near Genesee Monday night.
Colorado State Patrol said the crash occurred around 8:30 p.m. in the westbound lanes close to mile marker 254, which is near Genesse Park.
A Chevrolet Silverado had been heading eastbound on I-70 when it swerved to the right, over-corrected and swerved to the left, crossing over the median and hitting the driver side of a Chevrolet Suburban that was traveling westbound, CSP said.
The driver of the Silverado, 62-year-old woman Cheri Goodard from Frederick, died at the scene. CSP said they believe she was under the influence of both alcohol and marijuana.
The driver of the Suburban, 38-year-old Sancy Shaw from Clark, also died in the crash. A 6-year-old girl in the backseat of that car was injured in the crash, CSP said. She was airlifted to Children’s Hospital Colorado in serious condition.
Goodard had been charged with driving while impaired and careless driving in 1996, according to court documents.
