ELBERT COUNTY, Colo. -- Investigators arrested two men following a physical altercation that ended in gunfire Saturday night, during a rodeo at a ranch in Elbert County.
Authorities were called to Rancho El Pino, on the 44000 block of Comanche Creek Road, just after 7:30 p.m., after receiving reports of an active shooter.
They say upward of 1,500 people had gathered at the ranch for a rodeo when a fight broke out and one of the attendees pulled out a gun and started shooting.
Fundraiser
One attendee, who left the rodeo on horseback, told Denver7 that the event was a fundraiser for his 15-year-old niece, who has cancer.
According to a news release posted on the Elbert County Sheriff's Facebook page, it is not known if anyone was struck by the gunfire, although two parties who were working at the event were treated for minor injuries related to the physical altercation.
Arrests
Two men were contacted leaving the rodeo and were taken into custody for charges related to the shooting. Their names are not being released at this time.
