3 more homes destroyed by Cold Springs Fire, total of 8 homes burn

BOULDER COUNTY, Colo. -- A damage assessment team has uncovered an additional seven buildings destroyed by the Cold Springs Fire. 

Boulder County officials announced the new damage on Tuesday afternoon, announcing three of those destroyed buildings are homes, bringing the total number of destroyed homes to eight.

Of those newly destroyed homes, Boulder County Sheriff Joe Pelle said two were smaller cabins, another is described as a larger cabin. The owners of the homes could not immediately be reached.

Four of the newly destroyed buildings are outbuildings, officials said. 

Hundreds of firefighters have been battling the 566-acre fire since it sparked Saturday afternoon. Two campers have been arrested on felony arson charges after police alleged they did not do enough to extinguish their campfires. 

As the fight continues, officials say they hope to have the fire, which had been zero percent contained through Monday, at about 25 percent containment. 

Homeowners were evacuated in the thousands, with roughly 2,000 residents evacuated virtually overnight. Roughly 800 homeowners were allowed to return home on Tuesday.

Pelle said he hopes homeowners will get to return home in about a week.
