Thieves nab two Salvation Army red kettles in Aurora

Posted

AURORA, Colo. – The Salvation Army is warning people to be on the lookout after two of the organization’s iconic red kettles were stolen.

The two kettles and a sign, apron and bell were stolen last week in Aurora, the Salvation Army said.

Salvation Army officials are concerned that whoever stole the kettles might start using them to try to collect money from unwitting donors.

The organization warns potential donors to always make sure they’re giving money to a legitimate Salvation Army representative. The red kettle will always have a stand with a Salvation Army sign on top and a bell ringer wearing an apron, who will not explicitly ask for donations.

On a typical weekday, a single red kettle in Aurora raises between $350 and $500.
