Thanksgiving travel rush and more: 5 Things to Know for Wednesday, Nov. 22

Posted

DENVER – Good morning! Here’s what you need to know today, Wednesday, Nov. 22.

1. Holiday travel rush is underway
With Thanksgiving now just a day away, many people are heading out of town to visit family and friends. Plan for extra time at the airport and expect lots of traffic on area roads. If you're heading out this morning, a serious crash has closed I-270 in both directions between Vasquez and I-70.

2. U.S. Highway 34 opening for the weekend
Highway 34 is temporarily opening between Loveland and County Road 43, giving travelers access to Estes Park for the Thanksgiving weekend. The highway opens at 4 p.m. Wednesday but be aware that it's a one-lane road for 11 miles, so traffic will be moving slowly. It's still better to take Highway 36 into Estes Park.

3. U.S. Navy plane crashes in Pacific
Three people are missing after a U.S. Navy jet crashed into the ocean off the coast of Japan. Eight people have been rescued.

4. Watch out for Black Friday malware
Microsoft sent out a warning about malware attacks that aim to take advantage of Black Friday shoppers. Be wary of links in your email and if you're uncertain, go directly to a retailer's website.

5. Forecast looking great for Thanksgiving
Wednesday will be warm with highs in the mid-60s under partly cloudy skies. Thanksgiving Day will be warm, dry and delightful across Colorado! Highs will be around 70 degrees in Denver with a mix of upper 60s and low 70s across the eastern plains.
