DENVER — In an era when many independent bookstores are closing their doors, Tattered Cover is expanding its presence in the Denver metro area.

The Denver-based bookstore announced on Thursday that it’s planning to open a new store in Westminster next year. It’ll be the first new store since the Tattered Cover opened an outpost at Union Station in 2014.

The approximately 5,000-square-foot Westminster store will be located on the ground floor of the Origin Hotel in the fast-growing “downtown” area just west of U.S. 36 and Sheridan Boulevard that was once home to the Westminster Mall.

The hotel and bookstore will be across the street from the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, which just opened its doors earlier this year.

“We are thrilled to come to Westminster,” said Tattered Cover CEO and co-owner Len Vlahos. “The City’s vision for a true downtown—distinct, vibrant, and developed over time—will be a boon to residents, and we’re proud to be a part of it. We also feel privileged to be working with our friends at the Origin Hotel, who are kindred spirits in creating unique customer experiences.”

Tattered Cover currently has four stores in the Denver area and three satellite locations at Denver International Airport.

The Westminster Tattered Cover store is tentatively set to open in April 2020.
