AURORA, Colo. — Some rooms had to be evacuated from a hotel in Aurora due to an hours-long SWAT situation Thursday morning.
A family member of a woman inside the Extended Stay America at 13941 E. Harvard Ave. contacted the Aurora Police Department at 1:49 a.m. saying there was a man with a gun inside the woman’s room refusing to let her leave.
Due to the report of a weapon involved, Aurora’s SWAT team was called to bring a peaceful resolve to the situation.
Law enforcement weren't able to make contact with anyone inside, and the people in the room didn't respond to SWAT commands to exit for hours.
Just before 11 a.m., Aurora police said the woman came out of the room unharmed. Paramedics checked her out on scene as a precaution.
The man remained inside the room, but by 11:49 a.m., Aurora police said he was taken into custody without further incident. The man has been identified as Marco Hernandez, 27, and he's being charged with second-degree domestic violence assault and several outstanding warrants, police said.
Surrounding rooms that were occupied were evacuated during the incident.
