DENVER – Police fatally shot a domestic violence suspect who was stabbing a woman when they broke into a Globeville home early Friday afternoon, according to a spokesperson from the Denver Police Department.

Division Chief Ron Thomas said police had to break into a home near the intersection of E. 51st Avenue and Grant Street after responding to a domestic violence incident call at about 11:50 a.m.

Once inside, officers were confronted by a man who was reportedly stabbing the woman. Officers tried to de-escalate the situation, Ron Said, but the suspect "continued to assault" the victim. That's when police fired their weapons at the suspect, who was declared dead at the scene shortly after.

The woman was taken to Denver Health Medical Center where she remains in serious condition, Thomas said.

No officers were injured in the shooting.

A young child who was inside the home at the time was also removed from the scene and was not injured, Thomas said.

This is the second shooting involving officers in that neighborhood in as many days. On Wednesday, police were involved in a shootout with several individuals in the Globeville neighborhood. One of the suspects in that shooting died.
