GOLDEN, Colo. -- Police named him the Most Wanted Man in Jefferson County after accusations he brutally beat a two-year-old girl, and now Joshua James Gonzales has bonded out of jail.
Gonzales posted a $100,000 cash surety bond Friday.
Last month, his girlfriend's daughter was found not breathing in a school parking lot and rushed to the hospital.
Records state that doctors found a lacerated liver, evidence of strangling and head trauma.
Her mother, Melissa Mangeri, and her boyfriend, Gonzales, face charges of child abuse.
Sandra Chavaz, Mangeri's Aunt, said family members are disgusted that both bonded out of jail, and they believe they should both serve jail time.
"For a two-year-old baby to be abused this way, it is heartbreaking," said Chavez. "We love Melissa, but she is not the victim, and she's playing the victim, and that's what disgusts me, truly because she's lied over and over again."
She said Melissa was only with her boyfriend for about six months and had plenty of family support, but chose to stay with him after apparent repeated abuse to her daughter.
"I know she was having fun with this guy. They were partying. They were drinking," said Chavez. "She needs to be behind bars because she did nothing."
She said that fortunately, her niece is recovering faster than doctors ever expected, and she is safe.
"It's a blessing," said Chavez. "She's our little angel We love her dearly. And it's so sad to think her mother did nothing to protect her. I hope justice will be served. He needs to be in jail and so does she."
