DENVER – August was a record-breaking month for marriages in Denver.
The Clerk and Recorder’s Office said it issued marriage licenses to 985 couples last month, beating the previous monthly record by five.
August is typically the most popular month of the year for marriage licenses and the previous record was set in Aug. 2016.
Last year was a record year for marriages in Denver, with 8,024 licenses issued over the course of the year. With more than 5,600 licenses so far this year, officials said 2017 is on track to beat that number.
“Denver has really become a place where couples want to start their lives together,” said Denver Clerk and Recorder Debra Johnson. “It’s wonderful to witness firsthand.”
Civil unions are far less frequent than marriages and Denver has only seen 15 such unions so far this year.
Couples can apply for a marriage license and make an appointment to pick it up at the Denver Clerk and Recorder’s website.
