DENVER – Denver Public Schools (DPS) is requesting the removal of fake Facebook profiles that are impersonating DPS schools—creating spaces for cyber bullying and a place for students to post videos of teenagers fighting each other.
DPS released the statement below on Tuesday:
“Denver Public Schools has been made aware of the fake Facebook accounts being created to impersonate DPS schools for the purposes of bullying students online. We have connected with a member of the Facebook support team and were able to submit a list of these bogus accounts for review. They are working on suspending these accounts. Several have already been removed. We are continuing to monitor and report any new accounts that we see have been created. We encourage educators and families to report these fake profiles to Facebook as well as any inappropriate photos or comments created by these accounts.”
DPS said several school leaders reached out to the communications department with concerns about the fake accounts impersonating DPS schools.
DPS is encouraging educators and families to report the fake profiles to Facebook as well as any inappropriate photos or comments created by these accounts. DPS is also encouraging school leaders to verify their official pages.
