LONGMONT, Colo. -- A school in Colorado dismissed its students early Friday due to rumored threats, Silver Creek High School announced Friday morning.

Students were released at 11 a.m., with both buses taking students home and parents invited to pick up their students.

"Due to the ongoing rumors and the disruption to the academic environment at Silver Creek High School this morning, we are choosing to close school today," the district said in a release.

An increased police presence is expected throughout the day, however, administration promised students are safe.

"All students and staff are currently safe and we want to thank the students, teachers and staff of Silver Creek for following all safety and security procedures throughout our early release," Erick Finnestead, Silver Creek High School Principal, said.

The Times-Call of Longmont reported early Friday the school received anonymous threatening messages late Thursday night.

Parents are encouraged to call (720) 494-3721 to allow their students to be released to their bus route or to drive themselves home.
