DENVER — Several crashes and a semi fire made for a difficult commute on Denver-area freeways Friday afternoon.
Traffic was snarled on northbound Interstate 25 near Thornton Friday afternoon after a man was hit and killed trying to run across the interstate near 104th Street around 3:15 p.m.
Northglenn police say the adult man was hit by an oncoming vehicle in the HOV lane and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Northbound I-25 near Castle Rock was shut down after a trash truck overturned. Troopers closed the northbound lanes at the Greenland Road exit.
The Colorado Department of Transportation brought in heavy equipment to clear debris from the crash. One person was airlifted to the hospital.

A semi-tractor trailer caught fire on the eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 near the Sheridan Boulevard exit.
No one was hurt, but the flames and smoke from the fire made for quite a scene and disrupted rush-hour traffic along the corridor.
