Seven of the fanciest movie theaters in the Denver area

DENVER – If you’ve been to the movies lately, you might have noticed that movie theaters seem to be getting nicer and are offering more amenities than ever before.

Harkins Theatres recently announced that it has purchased the Olde Town 14 theater in Arvada and plans to renovate it with leather reclining seats, a full bar, laser projection systems and wall-to-wall curved screens.

With the theater getting a facelift, we thought we’d compile a list of some of the fanciest movie theaters in the Denver metro area.

From plush recliners to impressive menus and a variety of drinks for kids and adults alike, these theaters offer much more than the popcorn-and-sticky-floor moviegoing experience of your childhood.

Here are seven of the ritziest theaters in the Denver metro area:

Alamo Drafthouse (multiple locations)

Alamo Drafthouse started in Austin with a one-screen theater that served food and beer. It’s since grown to a national chain that’s well known for its menu (including brunch!) that boasts dozens of beers, wine, cocktails and alcoholic milkshakes.
Bonus: Alamo Drafthouse has a “no advertisements” policy, so you don’t have to sit through all the car commercials and other ads that other theaters often show.

Movie Tavern (multiple locations)

Servers at Movie Tavern will you bring your food (and any refills or extras) to your seat at the push of a button. Don’t want to be distracted by food while you watch your movie? You can eat and have drinks in the bar before or after your movie.

Harkins Northfield 18

This theater boasts Harkins’ Cine Capri auditorium, which has a huge, 70-foot by 30-foot screen, stadium seating and the cutting-edge Dolby Atmos sound system, which places speakers around the theater for a more immersive experience.

Cinebarre Thornton Town Center 9

Like the other theaters on our list, Cinebarre offers a full menu of food and drinks delivered right to your seat. You can also grab a drink or bite to eat at the bar before or after the show.

UA Denver Pavilions Stadium 15

Situated right on the 16th Street Mall in downtown Denver, the United Artists theater at Denver Pavilions offers huge, comfy leather seats that recline at the push of a button (and since you reserve your seat when you buy your ticket, you don’t have to worry about finding a good seat in the dark.) Each seat has a rotating table so you don’t have to keep your snack(s) and drink in your lap the entire time.

Regal SouthGlenn Stadium 14

Like UA Denver Pavilions, Regal SouthGlenn Stadium 14 offers leather recliners, reserved seating, food and drinks. There’s also a party room and game room to keep the kids entertained.

AMC Dine-In Theatre Southlands 16

AMC also offers reserved seating and leather recliners. Order your food at the concessions stand and a staff member will deliver it to your seat. The theater also offers the popular Coca-Cola Freestyle vending machine, which allows you to mix and match sodas to create your own drink.

Honorable mention: Landmark Mayan Theatre

The Mayan Theatre might not have the tricked-out chairs and other amenities that big theater chains offer, but its retro ambience is impossible to beat. Built in 1930, the Mayan Theatre offers cool Art Deco style and three screens showing independent and foreign films.
