JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. – A semi-truck crash shut down the eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 near Highway 58 on the west side of the Denver metro area Thursday afternoon.

The fire was first reported around 3:30 p.m. The eastbound lanes of the interstate were closed down between 32nd Avenue (exit 264) and Colorado Highway 58 (exit 265).

Wheat Ridge police said Youngfield Street, which runs alongside the interstate, was closed between 38th and 44th avenues so fire crews could battle the flames.

Around 4:15 p.m. Arvada Fire and West Metro Fire said they were working the scene and that an extended cleanup would be in store because of leaking diesel fuel and hydraulic fluid.

By about 7:22 p.m., Wheat Ridge police said in a tweet one lane of eastbound I-70 had reopened. All lanes were back open by 2 a.m. Friday.

It’s unclear what caused the truck to catch on fire. Wheat Ridge police said the driver of the truck was not injured, nor was anyone else. The truck was the only vehicle involved, police said.
