VAIL, Colo. — A portion of I-70 was temporarily shut down near Vail Monday because of a rock slide that damaged at least one vehicle.

The slide occurred in the westbound lanes of the interstate near milepost 171 Monday evening, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

Troopers shared a photo on Twitter that showed an SUV damaged by the slide. At least one rock hit the vehicle, tearing a hole in the hood.

The driver and passengers were not injured, troopers said.

It wasn’t clear if any other vehicles were damaged in the rock slide.

The interstate was back open shortly after 7 p.m.
