DENVER – Denver’s trendy, growing River North Art District is one of the “coolest” neighborhoods in the country, according to Trip Advisor.
The travel site included RiNo on its list of the 14 coolest “hipster” neighborhoods in the United States.
What makes a neighborhood “hipster”? It depends on who you ask and TripAdvisor didn’t say what criteria they used to formulate their list but it’s fair to say the areas they chose are simply trendy, popular destinations – with lots of local shops, craft breweries, farmer’s markets and things like that.
RiNo certainly fits the bill: What was once largely industrial land is now home to art studios and galleries, breweries, bars, coffee shops and more.
Locally, you might be more likely to hear the term "gentrification" thrown around in discussions about the neighborhood and some small businesses say they're being pushed out by growth.
Here are some more neighborhoods that made the list:
- East Austin
- Wynwood, Miami
- East Nashville
- Montrose, Houston
- Lawrenceville, Pittsburgh
- Ballard, Seattle
- Pearl District, Portland
