GOLDEN, Colo. — If you’re the proud owner of a retriever, you have a golden opportunity to bring them to a party Sunday before the Super Bowl.

To celebrate International Golden Retriever Day on Sunday, the city of Golden is inviting goldens and their humans to a meetup, group walk on main street, photo, treats, giveaways and more.

Golden’s visitors center and the Golden Retriever Rescue of the Rockies is inviting all pet owners and their well-behaved golden retrievers to join in the celebrations.

The first 100 goldens will get a free toy from KONG, which was founded in Golden.

Merchants across the city are offering dining deals and special sales Sunday. The Golden Hotel is offering a special dog-friendly overnight package.

The celebrations run from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the visitors center, which is located at 1010 Washington Ave. At 12:30 p.m., the group will walk through the city, pausing — or should we say paw-sing — for a photo under the “Welcome to Golden” arch before returning to the visitors center.

While this is not an adoption event, Golden Retriever Rescue of the Rockies encourages anybody interested in adopting to visit their website here.
