DENVER — A group gathered in support of police faced off with anti-police protesters at Civic Center Park in downtown Denver Sunday.

The two groups were initially separated, with anti-police protests on the steps of the State Capitol and the pro-police group gathering in the Greek Amphitheater at the park. However, soon after both rallies began, a group from the anti-police protest marched over to the amphitheater and began chanting over the pro-police group.

The anti-police rally was organized by a group calling themselves “No parties for the pigs! Shut down Pro-Police Rally.”

The pro-police rally was in support of Colorado’s Law Enforcement Appreciation Day and hosted by The Becker Band.

Tensions rose as members from both groups confronted each other. Police in riot gear were on scene to try to keep the peace between the two groups.

Around 4:30 p.m., police escorted a pro-law enforcement motorcycle crew out of the amphitheater as the crowd dwindled.
