MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo. — Planning to climb the Manitou Incline soon? The price to park in a parking lot by the trailhead is about to double.

The Barr Lot, which is located near the base of the incline, will increase its daily rate from $5 to $10 per vehicle. This is the same price from about two years ago.

The Barr Lot is located at the end of Ruxton Avenue, just west of the start of the incline. A trail connects this parking lot to the base. This parking lot is heavily used by Barr Trail hikers and people attempting the steep 1-mile, 2,744-step Manitou Incline.

The price increase will go into effect on Monday.

The city has used more than $100,000 from revenue from the parking lot to improve the Barr Trail and incline. The free shuttles in the city are paid for, in part, by this revenue as well.

If you’re willing to go the distance, you can get a discount: Hikers and campers who reached Barr Camp, which is about 6.5 miles up the trail, will be eligible to receive a $5 refund on each day of paid parking at the Barr Lot. Management at the Barr Camp will provide the validated refund coupon, which contains instructions on how to get the refund.
