Potential tuberculosis exposure under investigation at Denver Health Medical Center

Posted

DENVER -- A potential exposure of tuberculosis in the Denver Health Medical Center has officials undergoing a full investigation.

Officials say a patient who recently was diagnosed with tuberculosis may have been contagious starting in May, all the way until July when the patient was placed in respiratory isolation.

The only people believed to be potentially exposed to the infectious disease are staff who cared for the patient, and each have been contacted by the hospital since learning of the potential exposure.

Anybody who hasn't been contacted by the Center for Occupational Safety and Health -- the organization heading up screening those potentially exposed -- likely has not been exposed.

Any member of the staff at the Denver Health Medical Center who feels they may have been exposed will be allowed to undergo testing.

Officials say they want to stress to the public that there is no ongoing risk of tuberculosis exposure now, noting most people who are exposed do not get infected.
