WESTMINSTER, Colo. – Police officers who were trying to apprehend a kidnapping suspect in Adams County Sunday night shot and killed the man following a pursuit.

Westminster police said they received a request from Northglenn police for assistance stopping a vehicle at about 8:30 p.m. Sunday. A male passenger in the car was wanted for kidnapping, auto theft, domestic violence, harassment and eluding police, officers said.

Northglenn police had attempted to stop the car at 104th Avenue and Federal Boulevard but the driver fled from police. Officers were able to stop the car at 92nd and Wadsworth Parkway, where the suspect got out of the car and fled on foot, police said.

Police said they realized the suspect was armed with a weapon when they tried to make contact with him and a Northglenn officer shot the man. It wasn’t clear what type of weapon the suspect was armed with.

The suspect, who has not been publicly identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A woman who was driving the car was taken into Westminster police custody.

Police have not released the identity of the officer involved in the shooting.

The Adams County Critical Incident Team is handling the shooting investigation.
