Police shot and killed a suspect who ran over an officer with a car, according to the Westminster Police Department.

It happened near West 86th Avenue and Sheridan Court at about 4:30 p.m., Westminster Police stated on Twitter.

Officers with the Special Enforcement Team were attempting to arrest a suspect who was wanted on multiple felony warrants, police stated.

The suspect had at least five felony and misdemeanor warrants, including drugs, assault and domestic violence, Denver7 Reporter Jaclyn Allen confirmed.

"He had some kind of remote control start to his car, so he and an officer got into a struggle at the drivers’ side door," said Kate Kazell, an investigator with the Westminster Police Department. "He was able to turn the car on and get the car into drive, so during this struggle he started to drive away,"

The suspect ran over and dragged the officer, according to police.

That's when the suspect was shot, investigators stated, but the car went across the parking lot, hitting at least one other car before it crashed into the Yak & Yeti at 8665 Sheridan Boulevard.

The officer was transported to the hospital. Police said that the officer is expected to survive but did not provide any details about the officer's injuries.
