LAKEWOOD, Colo. — The Lakewood Police Department is warning the vandal or vandals who blew up a mailbox that they committed a serious crime.
This was a custom built brick and stone mailbox. If the person (or people) responsible thinks this is a funny prank, it isn’t. This is very much a crime and now this homeowner lost something that he had built to make his neighborhood look that much better. We are investigating. pic.twitter.com/xapgE1SptX

Investigators believe the mailbox was destroyed by fireworks in a south Lakewood neighborhood around 3 a.m. Thursday.
The department wants to remind people of the kinds of charges that can be filed when someone is caught destroying federal property like a mailbox. If convicted, suspects can pay big bucks and serve jail time.
Police are still investigating.
