FORT COLLINS, Colo. – A student at Front Range Community College was arrested for pulling a gun on a member of the college’s faculty, according to police.
Brittany Schoonover, 26, faces charges of menacing, possession of a weapon at an educational facility, interference of an educational facility and false imprisonment.
Police said Schoonover and a faculty member had some kind of interaction outside a classroom Tuesday in which Schoonover displayed the gun.
The faculty member was able to disarm Schoonover and neither person was injured.
In a statement provided to Denver7, Front Range Community College said it cannot comment on the incident since it involves a student and is an active investigation, but the college takes security and safety seriously.
“We want to take this opportunity to assure the public that safety and security of our students and staff is a top priority,” the college said. “We regularly train using our emergency preparedness plan with our campus security, staff, and faculty. We are proud of how our faculty handled the situation tonight to ensure safety of both staff and students.”
Schoonover was booked into the Larimer County Jail.
