DENVER -- Before you know it, the holidays will be here, and whether you're looking to celebrate in the mountains or just go for a weekend during the winter, AAA Colorado says to book it now.

Expect it to be a busy ski and snowboarding season. Three resorts are already open and more are expected to open this weekend.

"We are already going to see a lot of bookings because the economy is so strong," Skyler McKinley, with AAA Colorado, said. "It's shaping up to be a really good ski season. A lot of powder and a lot of snow, that's when we are going to see a real increase in bookings."

Last year, the number of Airbnb guests in Colorado's resort towns nearly doubled the previous season.

Three thousand homeowners brought in a total of $32 million combined.

McKinley said if you think you might get a better deal booking through Airbnb, guess again.

"Airbnb is really good at calculating what a property would be worth on a certain night or certain time in a certain environment, so those rates will go up, too," McKinley said.

Depending on if comfort matters to you, there are ways you can save on your trips.

"Get together with six friends and you get a cabin, and you're paying significantly less than you would at a per room price for a hotel room, being of course you're in a cabin with a bunch of your friends after skiing all day," McKinley said. "Maybe that's not quite as relaxing, but if you're looking for skiing and skiing alone and you're not looking for amenities really do look at Airbnb."
