Northbound Highway 85 reopens in Commerce City following crash that left pedestrian dead

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. — A pedestrian on Highway 85 died after he or she was struck by a vehicle early Monday, which led to an hours-long highway closure as authorities investigated the crash.

At 3:15 a.m. Monday, officers with the Commerce City Police Department responded to the 11900 block of northbound Highway 85 after receiving reports of a vehicle that had struck a pedestrian.

Police said the driver struck the person in the roadway, and the person was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver stayed at the crash site and talked with responding officers. Police say they do not suspect the driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Northbound Highway 85 was closed until 8:45 a.m. as authorities investigated the crash.

The Commerce City Police Department Accident Investigation Team is continuing to work on this case. The deceased person has not been identified.

Thais marks the first fatal crash in Commerce City in 2021.
