ROGGEN, Colo. -- A mother and her young daughter were both killed in a head-on crash on I-76 in Weld County Thursday night.

Troopers with the Colorado State Patrol said the collision took place at about 6:40 p.m. near the Roggen exit.

The 31-year-old woman from Wiggins, who has not been identified, was driving the wrong way in the eastbound lanes of the interstate when she crashed head-on into a Ford F-150 pickup, troopers said.

The woman had her 4-year-old daughter and 2-year-old son in the vehicle with her. The woman and her daughter were pronounced dead at the scene and the 2-year-old, who was in a car seat, was taken to Platte Valley Medical Center with serious injuries, trooper said.

The driver of the pickup, and unidentified 31-year-old man, was taken to the hospital with injuries that troopers described as life-threatening.

Troopers said the cause of the crash is still under investigation but they suspect the woman was on her cell phone when the crash occurred.
