The ghosts are gone, but something just as mysterious has taken their place at Elitch Gardens in Denver.
On Friday, the amusement park unveiled Kaleidoscape (not to be confused with kaleidoscope), a new ride created by Santa Fe-based art collaborative Meow Wolf. The ride takes the place of the old "ghost blaster" dark ride, trading ghosts and monsters for an explosion of color and Meow Wolf's signature blend of art, science and mystery.
"It's magical," said Meow Wolf Co-founder Matt King.
Meow Wolf's partnership with Elitch Gardens comes as the collaborative prepares to open a permanent installation in Denver in 2020. Meow Wolf's "House of Eternal Return" opened in Santa Fe, New Mexico in 2016.
Elitch Gardens is celebrating its 129th year in Denver. Season pass holders can ride Kaleidoscape on a special sneak peak weekend April 13 and 14. Opening day for the general public is April 20. The water park will open May 25.
