DENVER — A man is facing 48 years in prison after shooting his wife in the head and then telling authorities she had shot herself.
Cain Wilkens, 45, was sentenced to 48 years in prison on Jan. 25 for the death of his wife, Clarissa Wilkens, 30.
Around 3:30 a.m. on Jan. 21, 2018, officers responded to a home on the 1500 block of S. Albion Street in response to a reported attempted suicide. Wilkens said his wife had tried to shoot herself after a birthday party at their home.
Responding officers found Clarissa Wilkens dead in a bedroom. They also found evidence of a scuffle, including a broken picture frame and items that had been tipped over.
Cain Wilkens was arrested on Jan. 22 and charged with first-degree murder.
He was found guilty on Nov. 20 of shooting his wife in the head after a birthday party at their home on the 1500 block of S. Albion Street on Jan. 21, 2018. After a five-day jury trial, he was found guilty of second-degree murder.
