LAKEWOOD, Colo. — A man was struck and killed when he got out of his pickup truck on W. 6th Avenue in Lakewood after crashing into the median Wednesday evening.

At 9:38 p.m. Wednesday, the Lakewood Police Department started to receive multiple calls about a crash on eastbound W. 6th Avenue between Wadsworth Boulevard and Sheridan Boulevard.

Witnesses told police a truck driver had struck the center median in the eastbound lanes. Police said the witnesses said the driver got out of the truck and was struck by a vehicle in the westbound lanes of W. 6th Avenue.

When police arrived on scene, they found a man in the westbound lanes. They attempted lifesaving efforts, but the man was declared deceased on the scene.

The man's car, a white pickup, was found against the median.

Based on the investigation, Lakewood police said they believe the man was involved in a single-vehicle crash in the eastbound lanes, exited his vehicle, and was killed in the westbound lanes.

The driver who struck the man stayed at the scene.

As of now, that driver has not been charged in connection to this incident.

W. 6th Avenue was closed — partially, then fully — in both directions between Wadsworth Boulevard and Sheridan Boulevard from about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday until 3:15 a.m. Thursday.

This case remains under investigation.
