ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — An Englewood man wanted to make his engagement proposal memorable for his longtime girlfriend so he decided to publish a picture of himself down on one knee asking her to marry him.

John Voiles and Tonya Brizzolara have been dating for eight years and just had their first child together.

“I didn’t want her to have a baby without a ring on her finger,” Voiles said.

Voiles published his picture in the Englewood Herald and bought the newspaper for his girlfriend to read Saturday night.

“I said, 'Hey babe, check out this cool story on page 23 and then I walked into the kitchen,” Voiles said.

Brizzolara, who was shocked and caught off guard, accepted the proposal.

“It did make me cry because it was nice to just say the words,” Brizzolara said.
