DENVER — Authorities in Denver are searching for a hit-and-run driver who struck and killed a man in a wheelchair in the southbound lanes of Broadway early Monday, the Denver Police Department said.
The crash happened around 2:32 a.m. Monday near 3rd and Broadway, according to Nate Magee with the police department.
The man in the wheelchair was stationary in lane two at the time. It's not clear why he was stopped or for how long, Magee said. On Wednesday, the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner identified the man as Christopher Kelley, 48. The cause of death was multiple blunt force injuries.
The suspect vehicle may have been a white 2013 to 2015 Dodge or Ram pickup with black running boards and a black cover over the rear bed of the truck, according to an update from Metro Denver Crime Stoppers. It would have a damaged or missing left-side headlight and likely extensive damage to the driver's side bumper.
Anyone who sees the vehicle or has any information is asked to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers to leave an anonymous tip at (720) 913-7867.
This is a developing story and new information will be added as it's available.
