GREELEY, Colo. — A man was taken into custody after allegedly pulling a large kitchen knife on Greeley police as they tried to arrest him Friday evening.

On Friday around 9 p.m., officers with the Greeley Police Department responded to the 2400 block of Aspen Avenue to contact a wanted fugitive who had an outstanding felony warrant.

They were able to contact the fugitive — 27-year-old Jose Magana-Ledezma — as they approached the front door of a residence. Officers told him he was under arrest for the outstanding felony warrant, but he failed to comply, according to police.

When an officer grabbed Magana-Ledezma’s arm, he pulled away and pulled a large kitchen knife from his waistband and threatened the officers, according to police.

Police retreated several feet and a short standoff followed when Magana-Ledezma went back into the home.

A crisis negotiator was able to talk Magana-Ledezma out of the residence, according to police.

He was arrested for the outstanding warrants, which were connected to aggravated robbery, obstruction of a police officer and unlawfully carrying a concealed weapon, plus two counts of first-degree assault on a police officer. He was transported to the Weld County Jail.
