Leftover Halloween candy? These organizations will take it off your hands

Posted

DENVER – Halloween has come and gone but the candy sure hasn’t.

Whether you have kids who brought home bags full of candy or you just didn’t get enough trick-or-treaters at your house, you probably have lots of sweets sitting around.

If that’s too much sugar for you and your family to handle, worry not. There are a number of organizations that are more than willing to take that candy off your hands. Here are two that have locations in the Denver metro area:

Operation Gratitude

Operation Gratitude is a national organization that puts together care packages for military service members, veterans, wounded soldiers, military children and others.

Every October, the organization collects candy donations and last year, those donations totaled more than 533,000 pounds.

Halloween Candy Buy Back

The Halloween Candy Buy Back organization also supports veterans but it does so by partnering with dentists’ offices and other businesses that will “buy back” your candy – usually by offering a trade involving cash, toothbrushes, sugar-free candy or other items.

Other nonprofit organizations, like Ronald McDonald House Charities or your local food bank or homeless shelter, might take candy donations. Contact them to see if they’re willing to accept your unwanted candy.
