ARVADA, Colo. — It's been days since people started stocking up on supplies, and still, some grocery store shelves are barren.

Even with limited supplies in stores, Cheryl Walter took it upon herself to help her neighbors in Thornton who need groceries.

"I wouldn't want somebody's parent or somebody's grandparents and their loved ones to be affected by COVID-19 when I could have done something about it if it's just as simple as going to the grocery store," Walter said.

Walter isn't the only person making a difference in her community.

Arvada West High School junior, Madison Taylor, created a website for families to find volunteer babysitters and tutors.

"As of right now, I have around 20 babysitters, maybe 25, and then 10 tutors," Taylor said.

Already serving about 10 families, Taylor says most of the volunteers are also students who are healthy and showing no symptoms of coronavirus.

"We're also making sure that people are washing their hands and if anyone that they've come in contact with or any of the families are sick to not use the service," she said.

Unsure of how long it will take for the virus to be under control, both women say they'll keep working to help their communities as long as they can.
